Zircon is one of the oldest and most common minerals in the earth's crust. From this chemical element, zirconia is obtained – a high-tech material that has been used in world surgery and dentistry for more than 20 years. Now it is possible to use it in dentistry.
Unlike porcelain fused metals, zirconia is a more biocompatible material that demonstrates the best characteristics necessary for the manufacture of modern dentures:
- high light transmission;
- individual recreation of the color of the patient's teeth;
- lack of a dark border;
- complete absence of metal;
- extremely high strength;
- durability and aesthetics.
The zirconium construction looks so natural that even a dentist, upon examination, may not see it in the oral cavity. One can only rejoice for the future owners of zirconium prostheses, the existence of which, in the oral cavity, no one will ever guess – because they are similar to the patients' own ones.
The light shade of zirconium crowns avoids the appearance of dark borders, which often appear in dentures on the metal core during gum retreat as a result of age-related changes. The acid-resistant and non-porous material of zirconium crowns prevents the absorption of toxic substances, prevents the development of periodontal disease and contributes to the quick and easy cleaning of prostheses.
Excellent fit accuracy thanks to the CAD/ CAM 5M system and excellent technological properties of the material guarantee patients a sense of comfort. Zirconia is a material in which metal is completely absent. According to existing scientific studies, zirconium crowns do not cause allergies or signs of incompatibility in the oral cavity. In addition, zirconia is biocompatible with the mucous membrane and tissues of the oral cavity, and also has a sparing effect on the nerves, as it has lower thermal conductivity compared to metal-based dentures.
Besides, a simple cleaning procedure prevents the occurrence of periodontal disease. A properly executed dental design of a zirconia prosthesis is an investment forever. Due to the extremely high hardness and density of the material, this prosthesis withstands maximum chewing loads in various parts of the oral cavity, is not subject to wear and, therefore, discoloration.
Optical identity of natural teeth, durability and wearing comfort – whether it is a crown or a bridge of long length – zirconia meets all the highest requirements for the quality and durability of the denture. In addition, the teeth after the prosthetics procedure acquire a healthy and well-groomed appearance.
